Which backup methodology best suits your business requirements? Off-site daily backups or real-time replication?
Off-site backup is a data and system backup strategy where copies of critical files, information and applications are stored in a geographically separate location from the originals, providing protection against data loss due to disasters, e.g. fire, flooding, etc. The copying of the data can take place as and when convenient for your organisation and as frequently as required.
Off-site replication is a data management method and backup strategy that duplicates data or systems to a remote location in real time, i.e. as the data is changed on your primary server, it is also changed on a 2nd server in a different physical location. This method minimises data loss if a hardware failure or disaster occurs and decreases any associated downtime.
Microsoft 365 Backup is a solution to protect data related to Microsoft 365 services (e.g. emails, Excel spreadsheets, Word documents etc.) by creating secure copies, guarding against data loss and enabling data recovery. Although data related to Microsoft 365 is held on Microsoft's own servers, it is not automatically backed up and could be lost without this backup facility.
