Facebook, Instagram and YouTube were unavailable for a period of time on March 5th, 2024, impacting millions of users worldwide. But do we know why?
Whilst Facebook and Instagram belong to the same company, Meta Platforms Inc. (as do Threads and WhatsApp), YouTube is a separate entity, so what could have taken down all of the apps on the same day?

At the time of writing this, the root cause of the problems across these two platforms remains unclear, with both organisations reporting “technical issues” that they were able to resolve within a few hours. Typically, problems across multiple platforms can be due to problems with Cloud Service providers like AWS but it is unlikely that Meta use anything other than their own providers.
