A nightmare scenario for 8.5 million Windows users started on July 19th, 2024.
Apparently, one of the most reputable companies in the world when it comes to combatting cyber-crime, managed to release an untested update to their software which resulted in millions of Microsoft Windows users around the world being unable to access their computers.

The users were shown the dreaded “Blue Screen of Death”, which indicates at least an element of disruption but could indicate something so much worse.
Whilst the problem itself was not caused by cyber criminals, they were quick to capitalise on the problem, sending out Zip files purporting to contain fixes for the problem when in fact, the Zip files contained a remote access Trojan (RAT) which, had the users followed the associated instructions, would have allowed ‘bad actors’ to control computers from their remote location.
There isn’t much your IT Support provider can do to stop problems like this particular one occurring, all you can hope is that they work hard at getting you back up and running as swiftly and painlessly as possible.
What your IT Support provider should be doing though, is considering very carefully when updates for which they are responsible, are applied. This is rarely as soon as they are released unless they are critical security updates.
Speak to the team at Xcede IT and they will happily explain the process they go through before any updates or patches are applied that could affect the way you work.
