Is your 15 year old inviting trouble?

The FBI has recently announced that older routers (10-15 years old) might be making your home or small office network susceptible to hackers, including routers from reputable manufacturers such as Netgear and Cisco.

The claim is that these older routers are being hacked by the Chinese and could present the Chinese Government with a platform to use, primarily, against U.S. interests, both governmental and military.

Whilst these claims could be considered “sensational” and “anti-Chinese”, it is worth noting that outdated routers may be vulnerable to “bad actors”  who may even automate their attacks to reap maximum havoc/reward with minimal effort and yes, even individuals are considered “fair game” when it comes to demanding ransoms.

If you have any doubt about whether the technology you are using at home or in the office could be outdated, contact the team at Xcede IT and they will be happy to advise.
