Are you unwittingly helping “bad actors”?

And no, we are not talking about Jean-Claude Van Damme…..

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and its “Five Eyes” allies (i.e. USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) have a new warning for businesses; your computers might be part of a huge network of over 260,000 compromised devices that could be being used as part of a “botnet”.

“Botnets” comprise of a huge number of Internet enabled devices that have been infected with malware.

These “Botnets” are used by cyber-criminals to spread malware and are commonly used as part of a “Distributed Denial of Service” (aka DDoS) attack without the owners’ knowledge. The aim of such attacks is to take a website offline by flooding it with traffic.

They estimate that approximately 8,500 devices have been compromised in the U.K.

Speak to the team at Xcede IT and they will happily take a look at your systems and let you know what needs to be done to avoid being responsible for assisting these criminals.

The good news for existing Xcede customers is that this kind of threat will already have been nullified as part of their “preventative” maintenance, you’re welcome!
